Watch the Sunrise from Mt. Sinai.
Sinai, often thought to be named after the ancient god of the moon Sin, the mere mention of the name evokes mysterious thoughts enshrouded with religious awe. The ancient monastery of St. Catherine, oldest Christian monastery in the world, where inside its walls lives the Burning Bush, shown to Moses when he asked for a sign from the Almighty. Mt. Sinai, upon whose slopes did Moses commune with God and receive from him the 10 commandments. When Moses parted the Red Sea to lead his people out of Egypt, it was onto her shores that he led them.
If one stops for a moments contemplation, looking out upon its incredible vistas and the clear pristine weather of an early morning sunrise, one can be transported back in time to imagine what it must have been like, and shudder. It’s raw and unforgiving landscape, has a savage beauty to it that is breath taking. The local nomadic Bedouins survive much in the same way they have since the beginning, fired and tempered in the forge that is this land, the hawk like countenance of their warrior ancestors lying just beneath the surface. It’s a place that can take you back to a simpler time in life. |
